PLEIN AIR COMPETITION

You are invited to the Ogden Arts Festival at Union Station for our 6th annual Plein Air competition being held Thursday through Saturday, June 11th-13th. This year’s event will host a 2-day Plein Air Paint Out on Thursday & Friday, and a Quick Draw during the Saturday festival.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

Friday Night Plein Air Paint Out

Registration June 11th & 12th, 2009 (Thursday or Friday) 8:30 am to 12:30 pm
Location Ogden Blue 175 Historic 25th Street, Ogden.
Entry Fee $25.00 per registered surface due at time of registration (maximum of 2).
Requirements
You may enter one or two blank surfaces (provided by the artist) for the Thursday-Friday competition. The back of the painting surface will be stamped by a committee assistant and verified for contest authentication as painting is returned on Friday. Please confirm that your canvas/paper is stamped and registration forms are complete prior to leaving the registration desk at Ogden Blue! Competition begins as soon as you are registered; finished pieces are required to be properly framed (per medium standards) and ready for hanging prior to submission. Frames must have proper hanging hardware attached and be ready for hanging. No saw tooth hangers will be accepted.
Boundaries for this event will be within the downtown Ogden area; from 17th Street to 28th Street and West Ogden to the Mountain. Finished entries will be accepted in the Grand Lobby of Union Station during the festival’s Friday Night Event June 12th, from 6 to 7 pm, and placed on Silent Auction.

Saturday Festival Quick Draw

Registration Saturday June 13th, 2009 9:00 am to 10:00 am
Location Ogden Blue 175 Historic 25th Street, Ogden.
Entry Fee $25.00 due at time of registration

Requirements:

Entries will be limited to one blank surface (provided by the artist) for the Saturday Quick Draw competition. The back of the painting surface will be stamped by a committee assistant and verified for contest authentication as painting is returned on Saturday. Please confirm that your Canvas/Paper is stamped and registration forms are complete prior to leaving the registration desk at Ogden Blue!

Competition begins as soon as you are registered; finished pieces are required to be properly framed (per medium standards) and ready for hanging prior to submission. Frames must have proper hanging hardware ready for hanging. No saw tooth hangers will be accepted. Boundaries for this event will be within the Festival area from Union Station to Washington Blvd and between 24th and 26th Streets. Finished entries must be returned to the Grand Lobby of Union Station between 12:00 and 12:30 pm Saturday during the festival and will be placed on Silent Auction.

JUDGING AND AWARDS

Awards will be distributed at the Juror’s discretion. All finished pieces will be judged during a private viewing Saturday afternoon between 2:00 to 4:00 pm. An Artists’ Awards Ceremony and Reception will be held in the Grand Lobby of Historic Union Station from 5:00-6:00 PM. Prizes will be awarded as follows:

Plein Air Paint Out Quick Draw
1st Prize: $1,750.00 1st Prize: $650.00
2nd Prize: $850.00 2nd Prize: $350.00
3rd Prize: $450.00 3rd Prize: $250.00
Honorable mention awards will also be given.

The Silent Auction will begin as paintings are submitted for entry and end at 6:00 PM on Saturday the 13th. Each artist is required to indicate the minimum bid amount they will accept for the painting at time of entry. Paintings that do not meet the requested minimum bid will be returned to the artist. (There will be no “Live auction” this year. I deleted the two lines that referred to the live auction.) Festival staff will facilitate sales between winning bidders and artists. The Festival will retain 30% of the sale to cover competition expenses and/or to carry forward for future festival events, 70% of the sale proceeds will go to the Artist.j

FESTIVAL ART WORK COMPETITION

All Plein air competition paintings and submitted festival artwork will be considered for a $500.00 Ogden Arts Festival “Committee Selection” Award. This award will be given to the selected painting in exchange for the use of the painting’s image which will be used for the promotion of the 2010 Ogden Arts Festival. This award may be combined with the other awards and the selected work will be available for purchase during the silent auction. Artists not participating in the Plein air competition may submit entries for consideration for the “Committee Selection” award the day of the festival. All entries must be submitted to the Plein Air table in the Grand Lobby of Union Station by 2:00 pm on June 13th. A $10.00 submission fee will be collected and the painting will be registered at time of entry. All paintings will need to be picked up by 5:00 pm the day of the festival.
