PLEIN AIR AND QUICK DRAW 2012
pleinair

For the past eight years, Plein Air has been a major feature of the Ogden Arts Festival at Union Station.  As we prepare for our 9th year, we have included some exciting changes!

  • Award monies have been increase to $6000, beginning with a $1500 Sponsored Purchase Award,
  • A discount for early registration,
  • Longer paint times,
  • “Buy It Now” prices for immediate sale,
  • Extended time for exhibit of paintings not sold during the festival.

Artists will have two opportunities to paint “en plein air.”  Professional and amateur Plein Air artists will enjoy all or part of the 5 day Plein Air event.  If your schedule or travel plans only allow for a Saturday visit you may enter the 3 1/2 hour Quick Draw Competition on Saturday during the Festival.
Please note: in the spirit of maintaining a pure Plein Air event, we ask that you create your work outside, in plein air, without the use of any electronic or photographic devices.

See below for important details of both competitions.
Art enthusiasts can bid on (or purchase) these freshly painted masterpieces at the Plein Air Silent Auction.  Work is displayed in Union Station's Gallery 51. Bidding begins as the festival opens on Friday June 8th at 6:30 pm and continues during the “Taste of Downtown.” Bidding will end at the peak of the Festival on Saturday, June 9th at 5 pm.

The Quick Draw Competition takes place during the Ogden Arts Festival, Saturday June 9th. Beginning that morning, as festival goers watch, artists will paint within the festival boundaries. By early afternoon (no later than 12:30 pm), all returned submissions are on exhibit outside under the Quick Draw Tent.  The silent auction begins when the work is submitted and continues until 4 pm.

Both auctions will allow artists to designate a “Buy It Now” price for immediate sales.

At the artists' discretion, unsold paintings from either the Plein Air Silent Auction or the Quick Draw Competition may remain on exhibit (and for sale) through June in Union Station's Gallery 51. See www.unionstation.org for gallery information.
